Yes, finally settling in after a big move and making brand new bigger bags! So with that in mind...(and limited space)...it is time to make room for the new big girls! Take a peek at the updated sale section of newly discontinued handbags with extra special savings! I must say...There is alot to choose from... :)

Cecil and Company is officially closed for the holidays!

We are currently moving our studio, and all of our shops will be in "vacation mode" until further notice. Not to worry, we will return...this is just temporary! We are very busy elves behind the seams...making a BIG move. While there is sooo much to do...after the dust settles, we will keep you up to date with our progress via our blog, but be patient...as this will take some time to do...and Cecil and Co. will be reopening and updating sometime next year. You are always welcome to contact us via email, and we will get back to you asap. Although we will miss spending time with you for the holidays, with this in mind...

Cecil and Co. is on the move...Yup, we are moving our studio to a new location, so I thought..."I really, really do not want to move all of this...So, who doesn't like a sale...Right?" Fabulous news for you! This is our biggest sale ever! I know it is early, but what a great way to get a jump on your holiday shopping, or better yet...that handbag you wanted for yourself!

One can never have too many bags!

This is your Last Chance to buy before the holidays! So for the next two weeks only ...you can take an additional 20% off any handbag , in either our Etsy shop or our Artfire shop ( the discount will be refunded to you after you checkout). This will be quite the undertaking...so with this in mind...Cecil and Co. will officially go into "vacation mode" in two weeks...(it really won't be a vacation)...in ALL of our shops ...until further notice!

Good News, Bad News

The good news is... I finished my first set of jewelry pieces for my retail store and I took some quick photos. I've done jewelry for along time but haven't created anything in a few years. I was going to take better photos to post on my blog as promised, but I put my jewelry board up in the store(adding new in my store for the holidays)...I sold almost all of them!..

OK, so its not bad news that I sold them already, the bad news is I didn't get better photos! So here are my reference photos so you can see...I am currently working on more jewels to fill my board again!

The board I used was an old bulletin board I had laying around being unused, painted the frame and covered the cork in a great heavy woven linen...the board looks great for display, but not so good for taking photos of the jewelry. I hope you enjoy seeing how I am reusing what I have!

Did you know that Cecil and Co. handbags are eco-friendly and made with reclaimed fabrics that would have normally been thrown away! I am the ultimate fabric junkie and can not throw any little piece away...thus our creations are brought to life by mixing up these gorgeous bits and pieces right here in our studio in Batavia, IL near Chicago! That also includes old wool sweaters , vintage finds and yarns too! We are committed to recycling as many textles that we can by creating beautiful works of art from existing fabric sources ,which in turn rescues these from landfills.

From our store displays to our product line, we take extra care in reusing things we have and finding a purpose for them and creating unique one of a kind treasures from vintage finds and repurposed textiles. In the coming months we will be posting more photos of our progress and showing you how we stay green.

White Owl-Recycled/Repurposed Jewelry

Ohhh so lovely, I thought as I ran across this jewelry from White Owl while on Flickr the other day. I found myself just staring at it, wanting more. I decided I needed to know more about the artists and asked for an interview.

The artists are sisters Courtney and Christina Spivak. They create beautiful jewelry pieces using new and recycled/repurposed materials and put them into fabulous vignettes. Courtney has a background in film and teaches film at Wayne State University. Christina has a degree in art and a background in commercial photography and styling. What a fabulous combination!

Cecil:How did you get started in your line of work?

WO:We have been collaborating on creative projects forever, and started making jewelry together a couple of years ago. We only started our Etsy shop after people started to inquire about purchasing online.

Cecil:Do you do this full-time?

WO:Although Courtney still teaches full time, White Owl is fast becoming a full time job for Christina because business is really picking up.

Cecil:What is your favorite piece in your shop?

WO: It's so hard to choose a favorite piece! Usually whatever we are creating at a given time becomes our new favorite.

Cecil:Do you have any advice for other artists who are just getting started?

WO:Our advice to other artists is to make what they love. It seems like there is a market for everything and someone to appreciate what you are creating. It may take time to find your target audience, but they are out there!

Cecil:Tell us something interesting about yourselves that we may not already know.

WO:We love baking and have spent a good deal of time trying to create the perfect brownie!

I ran across these photos the other day that I wanted to share of my last shopping trip for fabrics. What a hoot! My best friend and I in Chicago shopping for what we love most...mmmm fabrics...one can never have enough, just like purses. When I picked her up from the airport,(we were laughing) we had the same Cecil and Co. purse. We bought so much that day that I had to squeeze myself into the back seat, ohhh that was a very uncomfortable ride home but exhaustion never felt so good! My next trip is coming up soon...I can't wait.

I wanted everyone to see this fabulous online fashion magazine full of great eye candy. VivaLaModa is bi-monthly magazine that showcases the best of fashion , handmade and vintage...all of my favorites! They do such a great job at supporting the handmade market and they also have great finds in vintage and articles on green products and much more. Welcome to my dream studio...this is where all the magic happens! Pictured is the main manufacturing area where we receive fabrics, design, cut, sew, photograph and ship. At times you will also see draperies hanging there too. While we are growing are handbag business, we continue to run our drapery business which we have had for about 20 years. With this experience, we are very excited to bring to you our newest collection of handbags, every bag is made with the finest fabrics and highest standards of fabrication and is very well made.(One of our biggest comments when someone receives a handbag .)

The Weekender

The Weekender was just recently added to our line for everyone who wanted a big bag! This vintage inspired bag was meant to be a more casual bag. This is a great looking bag, but
due to the slouchy feature ...very difficult to photograph! It looks way better in person.

The Daytimer was designed to be the Shopper in a grande size for those that carry abit more in their purses! We have fun with this one making it in several variations. Also available with fabric straps or short tortoise handles.

I just adore these pins! We designed our purse jewelry to be changed out onto whatever purse you decided to wear for the day or onto something else you where wearing such as a hat ,jacket or coat. This cutie adds so much to your simple purse.

Currently only available in the leopard or creme.

The Evening Bag

This is a fabulous evening bag for those formal occassions. It is the perfect size to either use the strap or tuck it inside and use it as a clutch. I just made one this week with feathers! I can't wait to show you that...it's part of my fall line coming soon.

The next item in our line came from all the requests for a mini pouch. Just big enough for their cell , cash and/or credit cards. Great for flea markets, it crosses the body to keep those hands free for the great hunt. I love the hunt for vintage...

The basic messenger is a popular one for those that are on-the-go and want the ease of not carrying a regular purse. I usually like to add a vintage button or two to my flaps.

The Designer

This roomy tote was designed third, mainly out of neccessity. I am always loaded to and from work. I also have one for my knitting, and one as a carry on for traveling. I sell alot of these totes to teachers and quilters as well.

The Downtowner

They will stop you on the street with this little number! The Downtowner was my second design , this is a favorite for many especially in this fabric combination pictured. We are currently working on new styles for our line that will be available in the fall.

The Shopper

The Shopper handbag was my first in the series for us, while it is still a popular seller, it has transformed. It is available in several fabrics for spring and fall. And I am currently narrowing the fabrics it will be available in. So if you like one currently for sale, buy it now... it may not be there at year end.

What's in a name?

Cecil and her Dad...
Everyone asks me..."Where did the name come from?". When I was a little girl my favorite show was Beany and Cecil -the puppet show ( now I am showing my age) and my Dad nicknamed me Cecil. It stuck and he still calls me that. So when I needed to name my handbag business , I decided to call it Cecil and Company, USA...Cecil -meaning me, and company- for those who were behind the scenes helping me and USA -because each bag is made right here in the USA.( I thought my dad would get a kick out of that.)
